It has always amazed me the extent to which reading on a regular basis can so greatly improve the clarity and flow of both writing and speaking. I'm an avid reader and enjoy a variety of topics and publications, but here are a few that I frequently bury my nose into....
Books:
I love biographies, really of just about anyone. Ever since I was young, I've been fascinated with the lives of others and the chronicling of their mistakes and achievements through their own words.
Dan Brown, though popular in the mainstream and liked by seemingly everyone, is, I think, discounted too often for his controversial publications and not given enough credit for the profoundly talented writer and researcher that he is. Needless to say, he's a favorite author of mine.
Some other favorites include novels by John Grisham (the law-loving side of me), Elizabeth Gilbert and Mitch Albom.
Magazines:
I regularly read Indianapolis Monthly in addition to many health, fitness and food magazines. Some other frequented publications of mine include:
Food & Wine
Fitness
Bon Appetit
BizVoice (the magazine of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce)
Newspapers and Online:
I read and subscribe to various newsletters, newspapers and e-publications online. Some of them include:
The Indianapolis Star
Metromix
NUVO
Examiner (I enjoy being the healthy trends writer for Indianapolis!)
The New York Times (the Afternoon Update e-mails are perfect for consolidating a day's worth of national news.)
The Washington Post
The Food News Journal
The Society of Professional Journalists (e-newsletter)
National Press Foundation (journo-news)
Publisher's Lunch (the latest news in the book publishing industry)
